Shifting undesired behavior into desired behavior,
Understand the root causes of undesired behavior. Reshape the underlying dynamics. People work in a context; in that context behavior is sustained and reinforced by structures, processes, procedures, written and unwritten rules, and the tension between espoused values and values in use, through which the collective social power game is played. It is of crucial importance to understand how this works to identify the real problem and key systemic levers to shift day-to-day behavior towards a high -performance orientation.
Personal Dynamics Each person brings his or her - mostly invisible - whole self to the team: dreams, aspirations, ambitions and values. At the same time, each person has deeply ingrained personal life scripts and archetypical heroic modes that induce functional and dysfunctional behavioral patterns. Under high pressure, these profiles may contribute to success but they may also cause dysfunctional dynamics. It is crucial to know the boundary profiles of all team members, and in particular one's own. It requires the capacity of presence, holding the heat, appreciative inquiry and an open will to move forward to the next level.
Team Dynamics Each team can find its own unique team code for success. Maximizing the power of differences requires understanding of each other's personal profiles and a trusting willingness to reconcile deep (inter)personal differences.
Underpinning practices: Dialogue Build trust. Understand dialogic dynamics. Hold the heat of breakdown. Find ways to flow.
Strategy in Action Understand an organization’s DNA. Finding the levers to shift it. Shape conditions for success & high impact execution. |
